I was
interested in knowing more about the "dark side" of consumer behaviors,
so of course I go to google, because hey, its google.
As I was looking
into the descriptions, I just randomly chose a link, not caring who it
was by and what not. This article brought up some interesting dark side
because I had never really thought about it:
1.
Product Misuse Many injuries result from misuse of a safe product -
not from product defects. “ The most dangerous component is the
consumer, and there’s no way to recall him.” I
think for this, its kind of like common sense, but I know that many do
not have the same kind of common sense as others do. But I would hope
that lawn mowers, grocery carts, or glue that people don't do stupid
stuff. Because then I will laugh, I am kidding. Be smart people!
2.Compulsive Behavior Smoking Compulsive Drinking Gambling Compulsive Shopping Other Compulsionsy. We
all heard (or most of us did as kids) that all of those fun things are
bad, unless done in moderation. And moderation does not count as one
big ass bottle of beer that is your "one" glass of beer. I understand
these are all social faux, but hey, we are only human and I want to live
my life as I choose (even with the consequences that I may face because
of such activites)
3.Advertising
to Children Key Issues: Can children distinguish between commercials
and programming? Do children understand the selling intent of
commercials? Do commercials make children want products that are not
good for them? Children’s Television Act of 1990 I
think this is a really important one in life because these are our
kids/neices/nephews/cousins, etc and we don't like to see them
manipulated in such a way that is unacceptable. There needs to be
guidelines that as future markerters, we follow because some kid could
get really hurt and die.
So
on that note, I am going home and have a nice cold beer before I do my
homework, so everyone, have a nice weekend and be safe!
